In her upcoming memoir, Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey wrote about her brief relationship with Johnny Depp, according to a report from The Independent.
Reflecting on the relationship, Grey described Depp as “crazy jealous and paranoid” with an “ill temper,” according to the outlet. Johnny Depp is currently in the midst of a defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over a Washington Post op-ed that Heard wrote in 2018 in which she identified as a survivor of domestic abuse.
Heard did not name Depp in the op-ed. Depp has denied the allegations; Heard is countersuing Depp for $100 million.
In her upcoming memoir Out of the Corner, Jennifer Grey recalled that her agent set her up on a blind date with Depp in 1989.
“We ate, talked, drank Jack Daniel’s, laughed our asses off, took cigarette breaks midcourse. He was so ridiculously beautiful. And surprisingly open, funny, quirky and sweet….” she wrote, per The Independent. According to Grey, Depp proposed to her within two weeks of meeting her.
But soon the relationship started to get complicated. “Johnny was commuting every week back and forth from Vancouver, but had begun more and more regularly to be getting into trouble: fights in bars, skirmishes with cops,” she wrote, according to The Independent.
“He’d started missing his flights home to L.A. having overslept or, when he did come home, he’d be crazy jealous and paranoid about what I’d been up to while he was gone. I attributed his ill temper and unhappiness to him feeling miserable and powerless to get off 21 Jump Street.” Depp was the star of that television series at the time, which launched him into stardom.
Grey recalls in the book that she ended things with Depp after he left for a meeting and did not contact her for many hours, according to The Independent. Grey’s memoir, Out of the Corner" will be available Tuesday, May 3.
